Welcome to Herty
Over the course of nearly 70 years, Herty has been providing valuable services to both the state and its clients. In 1938, Herty was born out of the need to eliminate southern dependence on imported fibers. Dr. Charles Herty’s discoveries catalyzed a massive push for the utilization of southern pinewood for the manufacture of newsprint.
What has never changed is the need to support and encourage new ideas, to find new problems and to take calculated risks backed by facts and experience. Today, as the Herty Advanced Materials Development Center, we continue in the tradition of supporting innovation and unlocking commercial opportunities. Our focus has expanded as we leverage our strengths in fibers and pilot scale production into new markets and industrial products.
As a Georgia authority, the Herty Advanced Materials Development Center is a not-for-profit, fee for service, independent scale-up and commercialization facility.
